Annual food day
Annual food day is an event to celebrate our togetherness with the society to ensure a full-course, nutritious meal to the underprivileged; just a meal to soothe their hunger. Our goal is to spread happiness among the less-fortunate, even if it is just for a day. Each year around 100-150 people from different parts of our surrounding area share food with us. We started this event back in 2014 and this event has been continuing for the past 8 years now.
is a glimpse of the event from 2020.
Annual clothes distribution
Durgapuja calls for an eternal celebration in Bengal. Any festivity remains incomplete without the wholehearted participation from all layers of the society. During the festive season, we pledge to let no one feel left out. Each year we reach out to put smiles on those pretty faces which cannot afford to buy new clothes during this festivity. For this purpose with our limited capabilities, we specifically work with children and senior citizens. To add further, the idea of LDS initiated with this very event back in 2013.

Annual blanket distribution
Each year in a cold night of December, we start our journey with around 100 blankets. We stroll through the streets of the city and whenever we come across homeless people without proper protection from chilly weather, we take the opportunity to make a good use of the blankets. The surprised happy faces are the biggest achievements of this endeavor.
P.S.: Interestingly, there were times when things did not turn out as expected and our members had been chased for suspected theft!!!! :P

Ration during lockdown
During initial stages of lockdown in 2020, many had lost their earnings, worst hit was the marginal people of the unorganized sector. Hundreds were compelled to compromise with their overall standard of living. Situation was so dank that even sound meals daily had started to look like a luxary to many.
Standing at this point, LDS members united and pledged that "No one would sleep in empty stomach". Starting with few, we ended up serving 150 families wiith raw materials like rice, dal, eggs, soya chunks, vegetables, soaps etc for 10 weeks continuously until government efforts for free ration took over. Still now, we hold on to our pledge that whatever be the situation, no one should sleep in empty stomach.

Supporting underprivileged families toward self-dependence
In search of sustainable solutions, LDS had walked hand in hand with a teenager from Krishnanagar. In 2014, a selling cart of street foods had been put up to fulfil the dream of self dependence where the head is held high. Successfully running the business would widen the smiles of many.

Following the trend, we also worked with a vulnerable family near Kalyani station. In this family, there are only two members, an old man and his wife who is a patient of serious paralysis disease from last 4 years. In this family, the old man was the only earning member. This particular family is dealing with many issues which are related to below poverty level. They were really unaware of the senior citizen facilities. He was in daily labor, but after the pandemic of Covid-19, he lost his job in 2020 April. At that time, it was very hard for him to survive with his unwell wife.
In the initial stage Let’s Do Something got the opportunity to provide foods, and necessary belongings (with all safety precautions) to that family for 3 months. During the lockdown, a wheelchair was arranged by the LDS team for the wife so that she could come outside of her house and move a bit by herself after 4 years of being paralyzed. During the super cyclone Amphan, LDS took the initiative to protect this family. Essential foods (keeping the health and hygiene process). After Amphan, their house had been repaired by the LDS team. But after all these things, the main challenge was to make them understand those opportunities which they deserve as a senior citizen of Kalyani. We did try to make him self-independent. LDS team facilitated a van, so he could open a tea stall and support his family. A small from the inauguration day of this tea stall.
Relief support after natural disasters
Amidst the difficult situation exacerbated by Covid -19 and the subsequent lockdown, a category 5 hurricane hit Bengal on 20th May 2020. Immediately after we surveyed our locality and served food items to the affected people. We also did the needful for the repairing the roof of the house of two families, whose house were affected in that calamity.

Next year, in the middle of the deadly second wave of Covid-19, another cyclone, Yaas, hit the coastal areas of Bengal. Although this time, the severity was a little less, it did not spare homes of many poor people. Out of compulsion, they took shelter in local schools and other unused buildings; however, food supply was painfully disrupted for a few days afterwards. We tried to help these families with food items as per our limited capabilities.

Covid-19 helpdesk
As we all know, during the second wave of covid-19, India was badly hit. The situation was severe and almost unprecedented since the beginning of this pandemic. On top of that, we were largely unprepared for such a terrible situation as the world was slowly recovering from this deadly disease and we were also hopeful with the advent of Covid-19 vaccines. This resulted in a major failure of our healthcare system. There was scarcity of emergency medical support, hospital beds and, most importantly oxygen cylinders. In this situation, Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms were flooded with leads of these medical supports; the veracity of these leads, however, was largely covered in mystery. At this juncture, we realized that the need of the hour was to provide people with correct information, more than anything else. Therefore, we set up a helpdesk where we gather information about medical supports from wherever we can and make sure that these support are available right at that moment. We provide people a hotline number where they can call and get verified leads in their locality. The availability of these medical support is constantly monitored in order to reduce the predicaments of the patients and their families.
Provision for stray dogs
The lockdown did not only hit the most vulnerable segment of our society, but also badly affected one other large segment of our ecosystem: the stray dogs. We have decided to feed at least 200 dogs once in a month. We know that they feel hungry daily may be 3-4 times, with respect to that once in a month feeding them would not make a huge impact but still we have decided to do that because we want to give a message to the society that if we can give them food then why can't you! Our objective is to motivate our society to stand beside street dogs. In this event we have mainly covered the entire Kanchrapara area. We have distributed food to almost 200+ dogs. Besides that, emergency relief (instant treatment) was done for those dogs in collaboration with another NGO. A glimpse of one of the events is available .

Cloth bank
Lots of people are there who do not even have access to proper dresses to cover themselves. On the other hand there are lots of decent dresses with many, which are reusable.
So, to bridge the gap, Team LDS has decided to collect all reusable dresses and provide it to friends in need.
